As part of Illuminate, a team of students led by Te Whare W膩nanga o Waitaha | 网曝门 (UC) Product Design lecturer Oana Jones worked on projection mapping animation to bring the fa莽ade of the Arts Centre to life with animated content. 听
UC Bachelor of Digital Screen (Hons) students Athea Ramos, Bayedan Hales, Erin Lim, Irwan Clark, Tas Nagy, and Yumi Busango, with UC Master of Human Interface Technology student Marko Ritter, created a variety of animations that used the building鈥檚 architecture to entertain festival-goers over the last three weekends.
The work was done using a technique called photogrammetry, which involves creating an accurate 3D model of the building, then working with this geometry to create the animated content.听
鈥淭eaching students how to make these experiences and showcase their work to the public during such a popular event is fantastic for their learning and professional development,鈥 Jones says.
The students turned the project around in about a week. Athea Ramos says, 鈥淚t was definitely an experience and was a ton of fun to work on. It was very surreal to see our work projected onto a building鈥.听
Jones hopes the success of the project will lead to more opportunities for involving students with this work in the future.听
